Balasore: MBBS studies after falling off the medical college building

By Sudam Patra

Balasore, March 31: In a shocking incident, a third-year MBBS student of the government-run Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital in Balasore died under mysterious circumstances after reportedly falling from a building near his hostel late Thursday night.

The deceased, Hitenshu Das, was a resident of Bhimpur village under Sadar block in Balasore district. It was yet to be ascertained if he fell off the building or died by suicide by jumping off the building. He was reportedly found in a pool of blood late Thursday night and rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to the injuries during treatment.

As per reports, Hitenshu was attending an online class, but left it mid-way. He also had spoken to his parents.  While mystery continues to shroud his death, all eyes were on the post-mortem report that can establish the exact cause behind his death.

The family members of Hitenshu informed that the latter appeared quite upset over some matter for the past few days. However, there was not much anomaly or abnormality in his behavior.

“He had come to meet me on Thursday and asked for Rs 50,000 for payment of his tuition and other fees. I gave him Rs 30,000 and promised to pay the remaining shortly. He left for his hostel happily. While leaving, he hugged me and said, ‘Papa, I love you.’ I’m completely crestfallen now. He was completely vegetarian and a sincere student. Sometimes, he would complain about the food served to the students at the hostel, besides the behavior of some management staff. I want a thorough probe into the incident,” said Chandrakant Das, father of Hitenshu.

The classmates of the deceased demanded an “impartial probe” into the unfortunate death. “Hitenshu was a good student. We don’t believe that he has committed suicide. We want an impartial probe to unravel the reason behind his death,” his classmates said.
