Acid attack attempt foiled in Bhubaneswar, locals overpower accused

Bhubaneswar, May 20: A swift and courageous response by local residents thwarted an acid attack attempt on a young woman in the Saheed Nagar area of Bhubaneswar on Sunday. The accused youth was overpowered by locals and handed over to the police.

According to reports, the youth, accompanied by two associates, allegedly attempted to throw acid on the woman’s face over a case of unrequited love. However, vigilant residents intervened in time, restraining the trio and ensuring the main accused was apprehended.

The victim later filed a formal complaint at the Saheed Nagar police station, demanding strict action against those involved and highlighting the need for justice in such heinous acts.

Detailing her ordeal, the woman said, “I had a friendship with the boy, but he later got married. When I saw his wedding pictures and invitation, I ended our friendship. He claimed his marriage happened under family pressure and insisted he wanted to marry me.”

She further alleged, “After I rejected him, he made my pictures viral and began harassing me. I even paid him Rs 50,000 to stop, but he continued threatening me. Today, he tried to attack me with acid along with two others. I have lodged a police complaint and demand strict action against him.”

As of now, the police have not issued any official statement on the incident.
