ED arrests TMC MLA Manik Bhattacharya in Bengal education scam

KOLKATA,OCT 11: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested TMC MLA Manik Bhattacharya for his alleged connection in the West Bengal education scam. He was summoned by the probe agency on Monday and was arrested after he was questioned for hours.

Earlier, Manik Bhattacharya was the President of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education. The recruitment scam took place during his tenure, claim sources in the ED.

His name was mentioned in a report submitted before the Kolkata High Court. Bhattacharya was removed from his post as the president of the education board after a court order.

The report was submitted by the Bag committee – the first independent probe committee in the case led by retired justice Ranjit Kumar Bag. It was formed by the Kolkata High court to investigate the alleged teacher’s recruitment scam in West Bengal.

Manik Bhattacharya was first summoned by the ED after former minister Partha Chatterjee was arrested.The ED had recovered crucial documents related to the alleged recruitment scam from raids conducted at Bhattacharya’s residence.
