‘Liquor vends to rise to 500 by month end’

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 2: On the non-availability of liquor stock on the first day of the implementation of the old Excise Policy in Delhi and the opening of Government liquor shops, Director General, Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies (CIABC) Vinod Giri, on Thursday said that by the end of the month the number of liquor vends will rise to 500.

“On the positive side, most major L1 licences are in place. Many brands are already supplied to and available in retail vends. However, consumers may find some popular products, especially imported ones, missing on shelves as they are still under process,” he said.

“By end of this month, the number of outlets will go up to 500. We expect availability to start settling down over the next couple of weeks. It is another matter if 500-550 outlets are enough to serve a city of this size or not. Consumers will find that the prices have gone back up as discounts are not permitted anymore,” Giri said.

“Industry is concerned regarding lack of clarity regarding the stock left over at L1s during the policy changeovers. The matter of stock from the November changeover is yet to be resolved and now stock from this changeover has also been added. We urge the Government to deal with the matter on priority,” Giri added.
