Cold wave to continue in Himachal, Punjab; rain likely in Madhya Pradesh

NEW DELHI, FEB 10: In its latest bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Delhi will enjoy a clear sky today, with mist in the morning. On Friday, the maximum temperature in the national capital was recorded at 24.6 degrees Celsius, while the minimum stood at 6 degrees. The temperatures are likely to remain in the same range on Saturday as well.

The bulletin also predicted cold wave conditions would continue at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan. On Friday, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Sikkim and the sub-Himalayan West Bengal also experienced cold wave.

On Thursday, ground frost conditions prevailed in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Normal life has been disrupted in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir due to widespread snowfall.

The cold wave has also intensified in Kashmir and Ladakh. Night temperatures in Sonamarg plunged to a freezing minus 22 degrees Celsius.

Videos showed heavy snow on roads, atop houses, and mountains.

Meanwhile, parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha will experience light rainfall from Saturday till February 14 under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over the central parts of the country.

The other states which will also be affected by this weather activity include Odisha, Bihar, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and the Gangetic West Bengal until at least February 15.

In the south, isolated rainfall was predicted in Andhra Pradesh on Friday, while Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala will see downpours from Saturday onwards.

The IMD also said that there was no significant change in minimum temperature over parts of northwest, east and central India during the next two days, and it will rise by 2–3 degrees thereafter.

On Friday, Sikar, Rajasthan, recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 2.7 degrees, while Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh recorded the highest maximum temperature at 38.5 degrees.
