9 killed, 8 injured as bus falls into gorge in J&K’s Poonch
JAMMU,SEPT 15: The bus was on its way to Mandi from Sawjian when the accident took place.
Soon after the incident, a rescue operation was launched by the locals, police and the Army. The injured have been shifted to hospital for treatment.
In a tweet, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condoled the loss of lives in the accident. “Saddened by loss of lives due to a road accident in Sawjian, Poonch. Condolences to bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. Rs. 5 lakh would be given to the next of kin of deceased. Directed Police and Civil authorities to provide best possible treatment to the injured,” he tweeted.
President Droupadi Murmu also condoled the loss of lives in the accident. “The loss of lives in a tragic road accident in Sawjian, Poonch is deeply distressing. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families. I wish speedy recovery of the injured,” a tweet from the President’s office read.
Former J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said, “Very sorry to hear about the tragic loss of lives in a bus accident in Poonch. May the souls of the departed rest in peace & may the injured make a swift recovery.”
