2 MBBS aspirants die by suicide in Kota on same day, 9th incident in 2 months

Rajsthan,June 28: In the first incident, an 18-year-old medical aspirant from Udaipur hanged himself in his hostel room on Tuesday morning. According to the police, the student, identified as Mehul Vaishnav, was preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).

The police said they did not recover any suicide note from the spot.

Mehul was a resident of Salumbar in the Udaipur district and had been preparing for NEET at a coaching institute in Kota for the past two months.

He was living in a hostel in the Vigyan Nagar area.

At the time of the incident, Mehul was alone in his hostel room as his roommate was away that night. His hostel mates informed the caretaker after Mehul did not come out of his room even after hours had passed.

Mehul’s boy was found hanging in his room after the caretaker broke open the door.

The student’s body was sent for postmortem.

In a similar incident, another coaching student, preparing for medical entrance exams, died by suicide after he hanged himself.

The student was identified as Aditya, who had arrived in Kota nearly two months ago.

A total of nine students have died by suicide in Kota in the past two months, with five such cases reported in the month of May and four reported in June, this year.

Meanwhile, the parents of the deceased students raised their concerns over the reasons behind such extreme steps taken by their children. Reportedly, they have not yet received a response from the college/institute authorities on whether the students faced pressure over studies.
