10 injured as passenger train derails in Rajasthan’s Pali, govt announces Rs 1 lakh compensation

Jodhpur,Jan 2 :  Nearly 10 passengers were injured after a train derailed in Rajasthan in the wee hours of Monday. The accident was reported at around 3:27 am at Rajkiawas in Pali.

Officials said eight coaches of the Suryanagari Express derailed between the Rajkiawas-Bomadra section of Jodhpur division.

Originating from Bandra Terminus, the train was en route to Jodhpur.

No fatalities were reported in the incident.

Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the government is giving Rs 1 lakh compensation to those who suffered “grievous” injuries and Rs 25,000 to those who sustained minor injuries. He added that he is monitoring the accident and emergency assistance and timely medical support was ensured.

Higher officials of the North Western Railway are monitoring the situation in the control room at the headquarters in Jaipur and are expected to arrive at the accident spot soon, CPRO, North Western Railway said.

Meanwhile, the movement of several trains was affected due to the train derailment incident in Rajasthan.

Speaking to news agency ANI, a passenger said a vibration-like sound was heard inside the train within five minutes of departure from the Marwar junction.

“Within 5 minutes of departure from the Marwar junction, a vibration sound was heard inside the train and the train stopped after 2-3 minutes. We got down and saw that at least 8 sleeper class coaches off the tracks. Within 15-20 minutes, ambulances arrived,” he said.
