BHUBANESWAR, JUNE 26: Once again good news for Odisha. Srabani Nanda, the ace Odisha sprinter, has qualified for the Rio Olympics to participate in the women’s 200-metre race event.
Srabani qualified for Olympics by covering 200 metres in just 23.07 seconds at the 26th International Meeting G.Kosanov Memorial in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The 24-year-old Srabani’s success came just a day after Dutee Chand of Odisha qualified for Rio Olympics in the women’s 100m event after meeting the qualification mark.
The 20-year-old Dutee clocked 11.30 seconds ahead of Anasstasia Tulapina (11.67 secs) of Kazakhstan and Mariya Mokrova (11.69) of Ukraine to run under the Olympic qualification mark of 11.32 seconds. That also bettered her own national record of 11.33 secs set at the Federation Cup in Delhi in April, when she missed the Olympic qualifying mark by one hundredth of a second.
It should be noted that Athlete Amiya Mallick of Odisha also bagged gold medal at the World Athletics Championships held at Kazakhstan on Saturday.
