Koraput, Feb. 12: A fierce exchange of fire took place on Monday between police and Maoists during a raid on a camp of the red rebels near Tikarpadu under Jodamba Panchayat in Odisha’s Malkangiri district.
According to reports, the exchange of fire took place inside the jungle near Tikarpadu when police forces tracked down a Maoist camp during a combing operation.
However, taking advantage of the dense jungle as many as 50 rebels, including their leader RK, escaped.
Huge cache of arms and ammunition was reportedly seized by the police.
Police suspect that top cadres of Maoists had gathered at the camp to chalk out their strategy and future course of action.
The police has intensified search operation in the region.
A joint combing operation of Andhra and Odisha police is underway.
