‘Ideate 2017’ discusses issues and challenges for development of sports

Bhubaneswar, Nov 2: Bansidhar & Ila Panda Foundation(BIPF) in partnership with FICCI Odisha State Council on Wednesday organized “IDEATE- 2017”- a Panel Discussion on “Sports for Development-Education & Life Skills” at Bhubaneshwar.

The Panel discussion was organised with an aim to bring about a paradigm shift in Education by promoting sports for a healthier & vibrant society.

Among the eminent panelists who are present in panel discussion were Sri Ranjib Biswal, MP, Rajyasabha and renowned former Cricketer, Sri Vishal K Dev, IAS, and Commissioner cum Secy., Sports & Youth Services Deptt.,  Sri Moncho Ferrer, Program Director, Rural Development Trust, Anantpur, Andhra Pradesh and Dr Abhijit Barse, CEO, Slum Soccer-Krida Vikas Sanstha, Nagpur. Ms Meha Bhardwaj, Associate Editor (Sports), CNN IBN moderated the Panel Discussion. International Women Indian Karate player  Ms Valena Valentina who  has not only excelled in a martial art sport but also crashes all notions of any male domain or domination in any field of activity shared her journey in sports  with audiences.

Panelists discussed  on issues and challenges pertaining  to  sports as part of the development agenda.They also shared research-based knowledge & information, government policies, role of development organizations and communities to promote a comprehensive approach to sports.

Ms. Shaifalika Panda, Trustee & CEO Bansidhar & Ila Panda Foundation said “Sports programs should be inclusive and designed to give priority to issues of social development.  A well implemented sports development program introduced in early school years can be a low cost venture with significant benefits for social inclusion, empowerment, addressing inequities and promoting life skills.”

This event marked an important step in raising awareness on the value of Sports in nurturing a healthy body & mind during a child’s upbringing, in order to create a more resilient society.

Sri Ranjib Biswal said, “ The development of a state in particular and country as a whole lies on Sports. With hosting Atheletic Championship in the state Capital, Odisha succeded in showcasing its culture, art, sports, tourism and industrial potential. The Sports plays a pivotal role in contributing towards in country’s econmic development”.

Sri Vishal K Dev empasized on imparting of sports education at primary school level to create  more talented sports persons in future. He also said that the govt. is taking all possible steps to create adequate infrastructure  to provide training to the  young budding sports persons.

Representatives from Government, Development sector, Corporates, Sports enthusiasts  participated during the interactive session.
