By Ganesh Raju
PARALAHKEMUNDI, SEPT.3: Taking advantage of the drought situations in villages like Gouri, Wana and Badigan under Kasingar block in Gajapati district, some employees of the Gajapati Lift Irrigation department have cheated the farmers on the promise of providing them deep bore-well and electric motor pumps.
They have allegedly collected lakhs of rupees from the farmers. They have also swindled lakhs of rupees of the department coming for the farmers under various purposes.
In various part of this district the farmers have experienced the rain fall due to the low pressure however especially in the Kasinagar block of Gouri, Wana and in Badigan area a very low level of rain fall has been experience and due to sever hot from last three years in this block hundreds hectares of agriculture land has been turned into a deserted land farmers are living a miserable life in this area alleged the locals of this block.
Near this agriculture land, two main liver river bodies like Bansadhara and Ankarada dam are situated. However, not a drop of water is available in this area for the agriculture purpose.
Gajapati Lift Irrigation department is not showing any interest to supply water to the farmers. Not only that, the Andarada Dam is in an abandoned state.
The department is not doing any renovation work on this dam. It has turned to be a dense jungle alleged farmers.
Money has been allotted for all this work but the department is not spending a single rupee. Hence, a high level probe is required in this department, the farmers who recently held a protest rally demanded.
Gajapati Lift Irrigation Corporations and Minor Irrigation department is showing a completely negative, stubborn, stiff necked attitude on these farmers the locals are depressed, broken due to the attitude shown by the concerned officials they are also in a stage of taking extreme steps alleged one of the farmers of this area. Due to Low pressure a minimum amount of rain fall in this area looking at this rain fall the farmers were happy that they can do the agriculture and started cultivation in this area however due to sever hot and shortage of rain water the cultivation land experienced a burned like situation all the crops was burned due to lack of waters alleged farmers.
Before three years in 2015-2015 the Kasinagar block of Gouri, Wana and in Badigan area were declared as draught affected area after the reported given by the Gajapati Lift Irrigation Corporations . The farmers were told to pay Rs 20000 through Demand Draught show that the department will provide a Deep Bore well including Installation of Motors and Electricity Connectivity. Looking at this facility thinking of not leaving any change to grab this opportunity the poor farmers took the loan through various sources and paid Rs 20000 through Demand Draft. Nearly 50 farmers from this block had paid Rs twenty thousand each, however it’s been more than three years the department had only provided the bore well in the year 2015 May and June but till today No motor No electricity connectivity has been provided to these farmers alleged the irate farmers. Several times the deprived and lost farmers had given the written complaint to the concerned department but these corrupted officials are leaving no stone unturned to lent their ears to the cry of the farmers. The farmers have also given a written complaint to the District Collector Sudhanshu Mohan Samal recently in a Grievance cell held at Alada however no justice to the farmers are given by the District Administration lamented lost farmers of this block.
What shocking is that Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is said to the District Collectors in a three day collectors’ workshop held in Bhubaneswar to act as agents of change to improve public service delivery and governance by using ‘3Ts’- teamwork, transparency and technology and to check on every block to stop the Corruption which is mushrooming all over the state especially more in a tribal and backward district like gajapati more.
Looking at the situation in Gajapati it’s been seen very clearly that the District Administration of Gajapati is no longer showing any interested to hear the message of the Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The Message of Mr. Naveen Patnaik is only in Pen and Paper but not acted practically said local farmers B. Balaraju, B. Naresh, Anand Rao, K. Samulo, B.Tirupathi Rao, Rajendar Sahoo, S.Rajulo, Binodh Kumar,Rajendra Saho and others farmers.
